Study Name: Parenting Desires, Intentions, and Experiences Among Minor-Attracted Persons
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to identify how minority stress and stigma influence parenting intentions in the minor-attracted community. Minority stress is stress that is due to the stigma of being part of a minority. Minor attraction can be defined as having a dominant sexual interest in children. We hope to gain a better understanding of how stigma plays a role in parenting decisions. Further, this study seeks how support and services can be best used to assist minor-attracted people in regards to parenting.
Description: This study involves completing an online survey. Personal identification information (e.g., full name, address, IP address) will not be recorded. Provided answers will be completely anonymous. However, you can take additional efforts to safeguard your information. This may include utilizing incognito tabs, deleting your browser history, or downloading and using a virtual proxy network to further mask your IP address. You will be free to skip any questions you do not wish to answer without penalty.
This online questionnaire is administered by the UBC-hosted version of Qualtrics. This is fully compliant with the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) because the survey data is kept secure. Further, the data is stored and backed up in Canada, and is subject to Canadian privacy laws. Data will be kept in password-protected computer files for a minimum of 5 years after publication, as required by the University. The only people who will be able to access these files are Dr. Cioe and his research associates. All associates have signed confidentiality forms. If you are to disclose information that indicates a child is currently at risk, or there is a future risk of abuse or neglect, please be advised that the researcher must, by law, report this information to the appropriate authorities. However, the researchers will protect the confidentiality of participants to the best of their ability.
Eligibility: You must be 18 years or older and identify as minor attracted. You must be relatively fluent in English and be able to read English at approximately the Grade 10 level.
Duration: 45 minutes
Draw: Following completion of the study, a hotlink will be provided. If you wish to enter a draw for a $50 Amazon Canada gift card, please send your name and email. If you choose to enter the draw, it is advised you to create a disposable email address which you can email the researchers from. We suggest that the disposable email does not include any potentially identifying information. The hotlink is not associated with your provided answers but will indicate that you have participated in the study. If you do not want there to be a record of participation, we advise that you do not participate in this draw. If you wish to withdraw from the study, you are still eligible to enter into the draw by skipping to the end of the survey to the hotlink. Alternatively, you can contact Crystal Mundy to obtain the hotlink.
