About B4U-ACT
Founded in 2002, B4U-ACT is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to advancing a compassionate, science-informed understanding of minor-attracted persons (MAPs). Through partnerships with mental health professionals, researchers, and MAPs themselves, B4U-ACT aims to reduce stigma, promote mental well-being, and support effective therapeutic resources for MAPs. The goal of B4U-ACT is to create a future where MAPs can confidently access mental health support without fear of judgment or discrimination, thus improving the health of MAPs and our communities.
We are a dedicated team of more than a dozen volunteers who support this mission through a variety of initiatives:
- Hosting workshops and presentations for mental health professionals, students, and researchers.
- Collaborating with academic and clinical researchers to develop a better understanding of MAP-related issues.
- Publishing a scientific journal reviewing research on MAP-related issues.
- Offering support groups for MAPs, as well as for their friends and family members.
- Engaging with media, professional organizations, and the public to raise awareness about the needs and rights of MAPs.
Position Overview
B4U-ACT is seeking an experienced and passionate Executive Director to lead our organization, support our mission, and drive sustainable growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit leadership, advocacy, and community engagement. This individual will be responsible for strategic planning, fundraising, building partnerships, supporting succession planning, and expanding our presence in public health and mental health spaces. The position is volunteer based initially, with the potential for compensation as funding permits.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership and Partnership Development:
- Develop and implement long-term strategic plans to advance B4U-ACT’s mission and visibility.
- Cultivate partnerships with mental health professionals, researchers, and advocacy groups.
- Engage with stakeholders, including the board, other volunteers, community partners, and mental health professionals to broaden awareness and create collaborative opportunities.
- Develop and implement plans for recruiting volunteers and hiring paid staff as needed and as funding permits.
- Fundraising and Financial Stewardship:
- Drive fundraising efforts, including grant writing and cultivating donor relationships.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors on budgeting, presenting periodic financial updates, and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
- Identify and pursue new funding sources, including sponsorships, grants, and partnerships to secure sustainable growth.
- Advocacy and Public Relations:
- Ensure that the organization maintains a respectful, stigma-free approach toward minor-attracted persons (MAPs) and mental health professionals.
- Represent B4U-ACT in public forums, conferences, and media, articulating its mission and impact.
- Oversee and review educational and research collaboration activities, workshops, and presentations developed by the team to expand B4U-ACT’s visibility, credibility, and impact in the public and mental health sectors.
- Uphold the organization’s values in all internal and external communications, emphasizing compassion and integrity.
- Operations Management:
- Develop and regularly review and refine policies and procedures for the organization.
- Oversee day-to-day organizational operations, coordinating and supporting volunteer teams to ensure mission alignment.
- Work with team leaders to facilitate communication and collaboration within and between volunteer teams, creating a supportive work environment.
- Work with the team to manage organizational communications, ensuring a consistent and impactful public presence.
- Ensure compliance with IRS and Maryland regulations and tax requirements as income increases.
- Participate in every-other-month Board meetings.
Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience in a nonprofit setting, with a background in mental health, advocacy, or a related field.
- Skilled in handling sensitive topics with empathy, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to secure funding, including grants and partnerships, to support nonprofit initiatives.
- Visionary mindset with the flexibility and adaptability to navigate challenges in a growing organization.
- Guide the organization in achieving its short-term goals and preparing for long-term succession planning.
- Strong public relations skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated skills in building and managing a collaborative team of volunteers.
